Company Overview
RAJBOORI, regal, colourful, luxe, hand-crafted. An offering of a collection of home design textiles that began as a collaboration between home textile industry veteran, Mitun Chakrabarti and Industrial Designer Stephen Burks of Readymade Projects. A new brand of eco-friendly, unique, artisanal silk fabrications that are as beautiful and sustainable as they are eminently-suited for all kinds of modern living was created. A perfect blend of design authenticity and exquisite fabric selection underscore the product’s unmistakable panache.
Contemporary Artisanal Creations
The color palette of RAJBOORI is bright, saturated, and in the rich, artistic, decorative tradition of Indian royalty. Yet, RAJBOORI is also extremely modern and of-the-moment, filling a gap in the contemporary home design market. Our Premiere Collection consists of quilts, pillows, duvet covers, shams and more. The look and feel is distinctive, the ultimate in comfort, opulence and a level of sophisticated design that makes RAJBOORI peerless in the home textile market.
RAJBOORI Collection is a careful medley of rich jacquards in colors as bold as turquoise and fuchsia, or softened with pastels such as dusk rose and beige. The contemporary geometric shapes that create the patterns are key elements that are beautifully combined with ancient skills of top-stitching, appliqué, quilting, and weaving.
In their debut collection, RAJBOORI combines the intricacies of a traditional and rich weave like jacquard with the contemporary and geometric patterns in the designing of our bedding ensembles. Jacquards have been part of Indian textile industry since the 15th century during the Mughal Empire. Our jacquards are woven by seasoned master weavers, in rare looms, with the skill passed on exclusively to family members over time. The techniques used to create RAJBOORI require immense skill, patience, and dedication to create such a rare and desirable product.
Natural Eco-Friendly Materials
Silk is a natural fabric that has appealed to royalty and the elite around the globe for thousands of years. There are many varieties of fine silk produced in India and most are traditionally hand-woven and hand-dyed.
At RAJBOORI, a very high level of craftsmanship and hand work has allowed us to offer rare silks available only in remote corners of the country. Keeping “green” in mind, we exclusively developed a rare variety of Peace Silk that has the comfort and durability of cotton but the richness in color and depth of the most precious silk.
Peace Silk is the only silk in which the silkworm is allowed to live a full life after emerging from the cocoon that is used to extract the silk. Our silk has the appearance of wool mixed with cotton but is soft and exquisite, along with the desired thermal property, making it perfect for duvet covers and quilts. Peace Silk is also breathable, lightweight and long-lasting, making all RAJBOORI products perfect for year-round use.
Management Team
Mitun Chakrabarti - Founder/CEO and Designer
With an appreciation of exquisite fabrics and an appreciation of sophisticated style developed in her hometown of Calcutta (the intellectual and arts capital of India), Mitun is now headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia.
An MBA, Mitun had been working in corporate America for a decade when she decided to pursue entrepreneurial projects. Her first foray into luxury home textiles was Melange Creations Luxury Linens, Inc. Using artisanal and natural fabrics to create a brand of unique home textile products, Melange Creations was ahead of its time, offering high-end, sustainable home design products.
RAJBOORI was an obvious evolution from the earlier projects Mitun has pursued. Creating an upscale, contemporary, designer Collection of luxe home textiles made from rare artisanal silks was a natural next step for Mitun. An excellent pairing of Mitun's business experience and global inspired contemporary design aesthetic, RAJBOORI's Premiere Collection fills an important void in the global, home textiles market. This Collection was launched in North America at the New York International Gift Fair in Jan 2009 and in Europe at Maison & Objet in Sep 2009.
Having travelled extensively within the US, Canada, India, and Europe, Mitun's home textile collections and choice of fabrics represent a truly international mix of style. She travels to India frequently to personally source the fabrics and work with the artisans directly. This level of personal attention has allowed RAJBOORI to offer a rare silk such as Peace Silk which is eco-friendly and create a bed linen collection that is the ultimate in home fashion and comfort.
Mitun has also been a featured interior design expert on one of Vancouver's most popular television stations, Channel M.
